WELCOME to our Portal for Information

Located in the southern most part of Chiapas, actually butting the border with, the Natural Park of the Ejido Community of Tziscao is one of the most beautiful and symbolic areas in the state. It's particular micro-climate makes it an ideal setting for various species of orchids, within it's enchanting montana forest of trees mesofilo with it's rich mixture of semi-tropical vegetation. A combination difficult to find and possessing an enormous wealth of bio-diversity.

Our best estimate is that the ejido of Tziscao, was established around 1860 and gives it's name to the largest lake found in the park, with an surface of 300 hectares or 740 acres and 3.5 kilometers or 2 1/4 miles long. Lake Tziscao is rightly famous for the beauty of its' distinct and changing colors during the course of the day. The hues and transparency are caused by the natural minerals dissolving in the water, finally turning indigo as evening begins.

There are more than thirty lakes within the Natural Park, that are easily reached on short hikes, or by horse or bicycle. The region offers the visitor many paths to explore the rain forest or even go to the near-by Mayan archaeological site of Chinkultic, near the edge of the lake area.

In an effort to preserve their ecological legacy, the community administers a complex installation of Eco-tourism, when you can find lodging in the hotel or cabins, restaurants, kayaks and horses for rent, handcrafts, exhibition and sale of orchids, and everything you need to explore and enjoy this unique natural environment.

The Ejido Tziscao has elaborated a plan for its continued sustainable development y Eco-tourism, with the vision that this beautiful patrimony will continue to offer magnificent possibilities for sharing, learning and enjoying the flora and fauna of Mexico. Utilizing the knowledge of sustainable environment the idea is to develop and expand attractions for the Eco-tourist, bettering the services and options for the enjoyment of the visitors. Within the plan it is contemplated to create various trails to explore distinct elements of the forest, excursions with professional guides to observe the resplendent Quetzals, summer camping areas and adventure sports.

Community Development Plan for Forestry Culture

Nurture the Forest

The Orchid nursery is now open to the public with a display of plants from the region, some unique in the world. Depending on reproduction rate some plants are for sale.

This nursery is managed by a women's cooperative. They have a educational program to learn how to care for and reproduce the orchids, to be able to offer for sale without further damaging the forest. The ladies are more than happy to discuss the different species and offer advise on their care.
